Projects

The MOSTOF project

The MOSTOF (Micromechanical and Optical Systems using Thin Oxide Films) is a collaboration project with several partners through out Europe. KTH is mainly responsible for the mechanical research part in the project and these videos are of the first test structures manufactured. Sponsors for the project are: Brite ú Euram III

The micro robotics project

The goal of this project was to create the worlds first walking microrobot based on Silicon micromachining techniques. We have used a combination of surface and bulk micromachining for this project. This small robot is able to carry loads over 30 times its own weight.

A densitometer based on resonant structures

The resonans frrequency of the flow channel structure in dependent on the density of the fluid within the channels. This is a miniature densitometer based on an isoropic silicon etching and bonding techniques.

A CO2 gas analyzing system

The gas analyzing system consists of an IR sourse in silicon combined with a filter and detector. It's purpose is to measure the aount of CO2 exhaled from a patient on anesthesia and ventilator equipment.

A micro conveyer system

The project was started in order to demonstrate the robustness of the polyimide joint actuators. We have managed to convey a weight of more than 3000 mg on an area of less than one square centimeter.

3D MEMS using polyimide micro joints

The purpose of this project was to develop a robust method for producing 3D structures using silicon micromachining and out of plane rotation. The priniple is based on a flexible micro joint suitable for both satatic and dynamic applications.
