2E1013 Master Thesis Project

Signal Processing/Digital Communications

20 credits

Welcome to do Master thesis projects in signal processing and digital communications!

About 30 students each year do their Master theses work in signal processing and digital communications at KTH. Most projects are performed in collaboration with companies, but it is also possible to do internal projects at the department or at universities abroad.

Through recent donations and investments, the signal processing group has a modern lab with very fast PC:s and advanced DSP cards. This means that we can offer fun and challenging internal projects, both practically oriented as well as more theoretical projects.

Several of the previous projects have received prizes, resulted in patented inventions, products, and some results have been published at international scientific conferences:

  • Tommy Carlsson received a TelecomCity Prize, 1999, with the motivation "... to the thesis project showing an innovative solution to a current problem in the field of wireless communication ...". Tommy is now working in Ericsson's research group.
  • Patrik Sörqvist received 1995 Albihn's scholarship which is given to "... the student, which during the last year has been most creative ...". Swedish patent 506.034. Now, Patrik is Director of IP Technology at Global IP Sound AB.
  • Tomas Andersson's Master thesis project 1999 resulted in a product: a CAU simulator which now is included in Adtranz's portfolio. Tomas is currently pursuing his studies towards a PhD degree in the Signal Processing group.
  • Per Ekstrand received Albihn's scholarship 2000 for a thesis in the field of sound compression. The project has led to an invention and patent applications have been submitted in several countries.

The studies can be financed (except for the student loan) in different ways, for example, through applicable scholarships or by collaboration with a company.
